When creating a name for your device, you are prevented from using some characters because they are usually encoded during transmission. The most obvious character that is not allowed is the space character. There are a total of 24 characters that are not allowed in the device name (including the underline character).

All alphanumeric characters are allowed, as are the use of the period and dash characters.

The device name can be up to 14 characters long.
