Getting an Ethernet connection to your install location can be a minor inconvenience. While a CAT5 Ethernet cable will most likely provide the most reliable service, we've found that wireless bridges also work well.
In particular, the Linksys/Cisco WET54g has provided very reliable service over a 6 month test period. This test period included several electric utility provided power outages. The WET54g is easy to set up, has a built-in signal strength monitor, and can plug directly into the EtherRain controller.
The WET54g is no longer avaiable from Linksys. It was replaced by the WET610N. If you can have one of these they will work. As of January 2014 the Cisco WET610N has been discontinued.
The Netgear WNCE2001 or WNCE4004 both work well. The WNCE2001 is low in cost and connects one EtherRain to your WiFi network. The WNCE4004 has a 4 port switch and so can connect up to four EtherRain controllers to your WiFi.
The Airlink AP431W Access point is not recommended for use as a wireless bridge with EtherRain.
If you decide to use a Wireless Bridge make sure the signal strength is above 50% (the higher the better) at the install location, and test it's response to a power outage.
